The Lincoln Drive neighborhood is located inside a bend of the Red River. It was the first neighborhood to be flooded. Here, you can see the power of the flood. The strong current knocked many houses and garages off their foundations. The water was up to the roof of many houses. Everything, inside and out, was covered with mud. Many residents here lost everything they owned.

There are no volunteers cleaning and repairing houses here. The people of the Lincoln Drive neighborhood will never return home. They will not be able to rebuild here. This neighborhood will be on the "wet" side of the new dikes planned for Grand Forks. Their property will be bought by the city, and this area may become a park.

Some residents of the Lincoln Drive neighborhood are now living in trailers in the FEMA trailer parks. Others have moved into houses or apartments in other neighborhoods. Finding a new home has been a struggle for many Lincoln Drive residents. The houses available in Grand Forks cost more than what the city is offering for the homes they lost, and there is no assistance available to make up the difference.
